Sustainability: Part of our DNA

Description

„The battery is key to a more sustainable e-mobility. As a global company with European roots, we are destined to become a frontrunner in sustainable batteries for the mass market.”

Britta Grundke | Head of Sustainability

**Sustainability is part of our DNA.** We aim to have a positive impact on both society and nature. Our engagement ranges from reducing the CO2 footprint of our battery cells and being a reliable, encouraging employer for our people to promoting human rights and acting as a good corporate citizen in our local communities. As a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, we are part of the “regenerate+” sustainability strategy.

Business

PowerCo stands for sustainable business. As a battery company, we are an integral part of the transformation towards electric mobility and green energy. Our solutions and products will contribute to the advancement of sustainability in critical industries. PowerCo is embedding sustainability in business processes. This includes implementing responsible sourcing practices in our supply chains. Among others, we are promoting the industry-leading IRMA standard in our supply chains and are contributing to Volkswagen Group’s Responsible Raw Material Reporting.

**We take responsibility**: Here is our policy statement on the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG). Our understanding and due diligence processes are based on international reference instruments. We commit to international agreements such as the International Bill of Human Rights and the ILO (International Labour Organization) Core Labor Standards. Our activities are guided, among others, by the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UN Global Compact).

Following our principle “Positive Power”, we focus on a new generation of sustainable batteries. From development to the supply chain, procurement, production and recycling, we work to design the entire life cycle of our batteries without violating human rights and in accordance with recognized environmental standards.

We identify, assess, and manage human rights and environmental risks along our value chain as well as in our own business area. Through vertical integration, we aim to minimize these risks from raw material extraction to battery cell production.

Description

Nature

An intact nature is essential for PowerCo. Above all, we want to reduce the CO2 footprint of our battery cells, establish more environmental-friendly manufacturing processes and reduce our impact on local ecosystems. PowerCo strives to reduce the need for primary raw materials by advancing circular approaches and recycling. Beyond our own sites, we engage for nature and biodiversity in our local communities. For example, our Salzgitter colleagues have planted about 750 trees in the Harz region as part of the “PowerWood” initiative. We have carefully selected diverse tree species to ensure that each of them contributes to the ecological diversity of the region.
